In a deeply disturbing court appearance, Bionca Ellis, 32, was seen smirking, smiling, and giggling as she faced charges for the brutal killing of 3-year-old Julian Wood and the wounding of his mother, Margot Wood, in an Ohio grocery store parking lot.

The incident, which authorities have labelled a “random act of violence,” occurred outside a Giant Eagle in North Olmsted, near Cleveland.

Ellis is now facing ten criminal counts, including two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder. The judge indicated that Ellis could potentially face the death penalty if convicted.

During the court session, footage from WEWS captured Ellis with her hands cuffed behind her back, fighting back a smirk and smiling several times as the charges were read. She also whispered while answering questions and initially hung her head during the video conference arraignment.

At one point, Ellis giggled and responded with “si” when asked by Judge Nancy Russo if she planned to plead not guilty, later correcting herself to say “yes” after the judge pressed her.

Julian’s father, Jared Wood, spoke emotionally in court, stating that Ellis “took everything from us” and imploring the judge to ensure she remains behind bars.

“There’s nothing that could ever replace my son,” he said, urging the court to do whatever it takes to keep Ellis detained.

Judge Russo set Ellis's bail at $5 million, the maximum amount, ensuring she remains in custody. The horrific incident occurred shortly after 3pm., according to North Olmsted police, who reported that Ellis was holding a knife when officers arrested her.

As loved ones shared on a GoFundMe page, Margot Wood was opening the trunk of her car to put groceries away when Ellis viciously attacked the mother and son, stabbing both Margot and Julian.

The victims and the suspect did not know each other.

Julian was remembered as a “sweet little boy” who adored his new baby sister and loved wrestling with his older brother. The grieving family expressed their profound sadness and gratitude for the community's support.

“This will be an incredibly long journey to recovery,” they wrote, “but truthfully we will never recover – we will continue to share stories about our beautiful baby boy.”
