Beauty aids that turn ugly
BRITONS caused £900million worth of damage to their homes last year when DIY beauty treatments went wrong, research revealed yesterday.
The most dangerous beauty product was nail varnish, closely followed by hair dye and hair straighteners.
More than a third of Britons have stopped splashing out on expensive professional salon treatments since the credit crunch, preferring instead to do it themselves. But a poll by insurance firm Sheila’s Wheels revealed that 85 per cent of women had spoilt their carpets with curling tongs, nail varnish or hair dye, while more than half have thrown away bed sheets stained with fake tan.
Worryingly, 43 per cent of women also admitted they had forgotten to turn off hair straighteners, leading to burn damage in a third of cases.
