‘Not pretty!’ Labour politician's SHOCK claim about ‘no deal’ Brexit will rile Brexiteers
WELSH Labour politician Ken Skates claimed that Britain must not leave the Brussels bloc without a trade deal because the outcome will be “not very pretty”.
Welsh Economy Secretary: No deal is bad for business
Welsh Economy Secretary Ken Skates hinted that a "no deal" Brexit scenario would damage UK businesses.
Speaking to the BBC, Mr Skates said: “We’ve been working with academics. We’ve been working particularly with Cardiff business school looking at the implications of a "no deal" scenario and it’s not very pretty, it must be said.
“That’s why we’ve been very clear in our call for free and unvetted access to the single market, our biggest trading block, our bedrock of international trade activity.
“It’s essential that we don’t leave the EU with no deal in place and no transition period.”
Welsh Economy Secretary warns no deal Brexit is "not pretty"
Mr Skates claimed that it is “absolutely essential” that businesses have stability during a “turbulent period”.
The Welsh Economy Secretary visited the World Trade Organization's Geneva headquarters in hope of finding out about Wales’ best interests.
During his visit, Mr Skates told the BBC that UK trade officials believe there will be no tariffs with the EU after Brexit.
Theresa May announced during Prime Ministers Questions in October that she believes MPs will have time to vote on a final Brexit deal.
Economist: Brexit has little significance in terms of markets
Brexit Secretary David Davis also said there will be a vote by MPs on the final Brexit deal but only if a deal is done in time for a vote to take place.
Answering Labour MP Keir Starmer's question about a Brexit vote, Mr Davis said: "Of course this vote cannot happen until there is a deal to vote upon.
"We're working to reach an agreement on a final deal in good time before we leave the EU in March 2019.”
But Home Secretary Amber Rudd contradicted the claim by David Davis and warned that a "no deal" scenario would be “unthinkable”.
