Huw Edwards gave a one-word reply when asked by convicted paedophile Alex Williams if he wanted sexual images of a child believed to be between 14 and 16 years old, a court has heard.

The disgraced BBC presenter is currently in a London court waiting for his sentence. Once a leading figure of British broadcasting, Edwards faces serious legal consequences after admitting in July to possessing 41 indecent images of children.

The court has heard many shocking details, including the fact that some of the images Edwards had received involved children as young as seven years old.

During the proceedings at Westminster Magistrates' Court, prosecutor Ian Hope detailed an alarming exchange from December 2020.

Williams, who had been in contact with Edwards, told him via WhatsApp: “I have a file of vids and pics for you of someone special.”

Edwards immediately inquired about the identity of the person, after which Williams sent him three images, two of which clearly indicated that the child was between 14 and 16 years old.

“These two were category C indecent images of children in which the child was exposing his penis,” Hope explained to the court.

Williams then offered more, asking: "Want me to send you the full file?"

Edwards’ response was chillingly simple: "Yes xxx."

Williams proceeded to send around 30 attachments, with approximately half containing category C indecent images of children.

Edwards' defence barrister Philip Evans KC said "did not gain any gratification" from indecent images.

"He did not store any of those images on any device", Evans told the court. "He did not use them for any personal gratification and he did not gain any gratification from those indecent images.

"He did not send them to anyone else onwardly and he has never sought similar images before from any source, and he has not sought similar images from any other source since."

Despite reports of separation from his wife Vicky Flind, the 63-year-old arrived today wearing his wedding ring. Edwards is understood to have moved out of his family home since the scandal erupted.

The ongoing hearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court could either sentence Edwards, or the case could be referred to a higher court. The possible punishments include a three-year jail term or a community order where he has to accept help in a sex offender rehabilitation programme.
