Glasgow gang thug guilty of throwing acid in journalist's face
ONE of Scotland’s most feared gangland figures has been found guilty of an acid attack on a journalist.
William 'Basil' Burns is expected to serve a huge sentence after being found guilty of acid attack
William “Basil” Burns, 56, attacked Russell Findlay on the doorstep of his home in Glasgow in December 2015.
Disguised as a postman, Burns hurled sulphuric acid into the 44-year-old newsman’s face.
Burns had previously been found guilty of stealing a cake at gunpoint
At the High Court in Glasgow he insisted he had only turned up to “beat up” Mr Findlay over photos linking him to a young woman.
Burns, of Paisley – who once stole a Lion King cake from Marks and Spencer at gunpoint – claimed Mr Findlay threw the acid on himself. But a jury found him guilty of assaulting his victim to the danger of his life. Co-accused Alex Porter, 48, walked free on a not proven verdict.
Burns has been warned by his legal team to expect a “huge” jail term when sentenced next month.
