M1 traffic: Two-vehicle crash on major motorway with several lanes closed
National Highways has warned drivers they face significant delays.
Drivers on a busy stretch of the M1 are facing potential traffic chaos this afternoon after a van overturned in the middle of the motorway. The incident took place on the M1 southbound between junction 25 (Nottingham/Derby) and junction 26 (Nottingham).
The hard shoulder, as well as lanes 1, 2 and 3 out of 4 have been closed as a result. Motorway camera footage appears tp show a van on its side in the middile of the motorway. Other picture shows heavy traffic building on apprach to the accident. National Highways East Midlands has warned drivers will likely face disruption leading up to the busy afternoon rush hour period.

"We have an ongoing incident involving an overturned van at this location.
"We were alerted to a two vehicle RTC shortly before 2pm this afternoon. The van had overturned in lane 3.
"Traffic was held for 10 minutes while we moved the van to the hard shoulder.
"Recovery is on scene now and the van has been righted.
"Just lane 1 is currently shut to enable recovery to take place but that should be open again shortly."

According to National Highways, there are currently delays of 20 minutes against expected traffic travelling southbound from J26 A610 (Nottingham / Eastwood) to J25 A52 Brian Clough Way (Nottingham / Derby).
