A Stoke-on-Trent College campus has been plunged into "lockdown" following reports of an incident. Reports of the incident on Cauldon Campus, off Stoke Road, in Shelton, first came to light just after 9am this morning.

One student told StokeonTrentLive: "I am currently sat in the car park of the Stoke-on-Trent College Cauldon campus, and they are in lockdown. There is a police presence, and an alarm is sounding. People have been advised to wait in their cars." Staffordshire Police and Stoke-on-Trent College have been contacted for comment.

Police confirm no injuries

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: "At about 8.10am today (Friday 6 February), we were called to a college on Stoke Road, Shelton, following a report of a woman making threats to harm people.

"Officers went to the scene and identified the woman. She was removed from the area and left in the care of professionals. No one was injured."

College open as normal

Stoke-on-Trent College has confirmed that its Cauldon campus is now open as normal following a police response to "a distressed member of the public" on site. 

A spokesman said: "Police attended promptly, provided support to the individual and escorted them from the premises. The college opened as normal from 9am. We would like to thank the emergency services and our staff for their swift response."

College locked down 'as a precaution'

A Stoke-on-Trent College spokesman said: "As a precaution, access to the college buildings were temporarily restricted while the incident was resolved."

'Distressed member of public' in college

A Stoke-on-Trent College spokesman said: "Early this morning, a distressed member of the public entered the college’s Cauldon site prior to students arriving on campus.

"In line with our safeguarding procedures, police were contacted to ensure the situation was managed safely and appropriately. As a precaution, access to the college buildings were temporarily restricted while the incident was resolved.

"These measures were taken to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of our staff and students. Police attended promptly, provided support to the individual and escorted them from the premises. The college opened as normal from 9am. We would like to thank the emergency services and our staff for their swift response."
