A bow and arrows have been seized and man arrested in a "major police incident" in Bristol.

Avon and Somerset Police said the weapon was seized and a man detained. Road closures were in place but these are being lifted.

The force said in a statement: "Police have detained a man after reports of someone firing what was initially described as a crossbow into Stillhouse Lane from an address in Bedminster Parade, Bristol."

Officers were called just after 3.10pm on Saturday (August 31), according to Avon and Somerset Police. The incident sparked public transport delays as routes were diverted away from the scene.

Because of the weapon reported, roads were closed and firearms officers deployed "as a precaution". Police detained a man an hour after being called and seized a longbow-type bow and arrows.

The force said a man is under arrest and remains in police custody. It urged anyone with information or footage which could help its investigation to call 101 and give the reference 5224230115.
