A bald man has left onlookers astounded after opting to have 'hair' tattooed onto his head, with amazed people praising the result and saying it "genuinely looks real".

The tattoo artist, known as @smp.don on social media, specialises in Scalp Micropigmentation, a non-medical procedure that involves adding tiny specks of ink to the skin to boost the confidence of men who have lost their hair. This process is repeated thousands of times until it creates a texture and layered pattern that resembles hair.

It can give the illusion of shaved hair for someone who is completely bald or even add the appearance of density to thinning hair. The artist has amassed over 42,000 followers by sharing the results of his alternative hair replacement technique on social media.

One recent video showcasing his work left fans amazed at how realistic it looks. In the clip, which has received more than 76,000 likes, the artist showed the man's head before the treatment, marking out where he wanted the hairline to start at the front.

"Yes, it's a hair tattoo," he wrote on screen, before revealing the final result. The customer was seen lying in the chair with inked dots all over his head, resembling hair follicles, reports the Mirror.

TikTok users were left stunned by the clip, admitting they had been sceptical at first but found the result stunning. One user said: "That genuinely looks real," while another wrote: "First time I see a genuinely good one."

A third enthused: "This is genius." Another admirer wrote: "If I was a guy losing my hair I would defo have this done, looks brilliant! ".

Yet the Canadian artist cautioned that such procedures should only be performed by specialists and not just any artist, noting that while more expensive, it's crucial for clients to "do their research" as opting for the cheaper option could lead to greater costs down the line.

Addressing concerns about the longevity of the treatment, the artist clarified: "The SMP stay 4-6 years. It only fades a little and doesn't go away completely. Meaning after that period you can always do touch up to darken it."
