Man arrested in connection with body parts in suitcases released without charge

A man who was arrested in connection with the investigation into body parts found in suitcases on Clifton Suspension Bridge in Greenwich on Friday was released without charge.

A second man, 34, w hose image was released in connection with the discovery of the human remains and who was arrested In the early hours of today in the Bristol area, remains in custody.

Police confirmed the 36-year-old arrested at an address in Greenwich, was later released with no further action or any charges.

Meanwhile, the 34-year-old who was held in the early hours today in a Met Police and Avon and Somerset Police joint operation to detain the suspect, remains in custody.

Police are still trying to identify who the "two men" whose remains were found in the suitcases are.

A Met spokesman said: "The man, whose image had been released by officers on 12 July, was safely detained by Avon and Somerset armed officers at Temple Meads Station and was taken into custody, where he remains. He will be taken to London for questioning.

"Extensive enquiries are ongoing, however at this stage police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident."

Further remains from them were found at a property in Shepherd's Bush.

The bodies were found late on Wednesday evening after members of the public reported a man on the bridge, who fled the scene, acting suspiciously.

A post mortem examination on the body parts has, so far, proved inconclusive.

Forensics officers were seen at the Shepherd's Bush address yesterday morning and searching the bushes of a neighbouring house while another took photographs of the area, including bins just outside the road.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine said: "This is a significant development in our investigation and I would like to thank the public for their support.

"We understand the concerns of local communities in both Bristol and London and officers will remain in the Clifton and Shepherd’s Bush areas over the coming days to reassure those affected by this tragic incident.”
