Clifton Bridge: Crime scene in London linked to investigation

A man has been arrested in Greenwich, south-east London after the discovery of human remains in two suitcases near Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said on Friday night: "A man, aged 36, was arrested at an address in Greenwich early on Friday, 12, July. He has been taken into custody where he remains. This is not the same man we are appealing for."

The spokesman didn't say what the man was arrested on suspicion of. Police sources have told the Daily Mirror the arrest is not "key" to the ongoing investigation.

The focus of the police investigation shifted from Bristol to the capital today, with a crime scene set up in Shepherd's Bush, west London.

A private ambulance arrived at the scene in Scotts Road, Shepherd's Bush, at 6.30pm on Friday, according to the Press Association news agency.

The police confirmed on Friday that the remains are believed to be those of two adult men. The results of one post-mortem examination proved "inconclusive" while a second post-mortem examination remains ongoing.

Clifton Suspension Bridge was closed on Thursday as forensic investigations took place. Experts dressed in blue suits were spotted outside the property on Scotts Road earlier today.

A taxi was seized in Bristol and the taxi driver was helping officers with the investigation, according to Avon and Somerset Police.
