Liverpool fire LIVE : Merseyside industrial estate in flames as firefighters rush to scene

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and Merseyside Police are currently stationed on Wilson Road battling the blaze in Liverpool.

Emergency services are currently battling a massive blaze at Huyton Industrial Estate in Liverpool.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and Merseyside Police have been deployed to Wilson Road. Images captured by the Liverpool ECHO reveal a towering pile of rubbish ablaze, with thick black smoke spiralling into the sky.

The area, located near the delivery firm APC, has been cordoned off, reports the Liverpool Echo.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "Due to a visibly large smoke plume, residents and businesses in the area should keep doors and windows closed.

"People with an existing health condition should keep medicines close and if any ill effects are experienced dial NHS 111 for advice. This is an ongoing incident, please avoid the area."

The MFRS also said there were "10 fire engines and two aerial appliances" assigned to the blaze due to its size.

All bus services currently suspended by one operator

Two updates on the bus services around Huyton this morning.

Huyton Travel Ltd has said: "Due to the ongoing fire on Wilson Road, all bus services are currently suspended. We are closely monitoring the situation and will resume operations as soon as the road has been cleared and we can get the buses out."

And an update from Arriva: "Service update: due to closure of Wilson road Huyton service 10B will divert via St John's road Manor Farm Road, Elizabeth Road in both directions until road reopens."

Road closures update

Traffic site Inrix says: "Wilson Road in both directions closed due to building fire from A5080 Cronton Road to Manor Farm Road.

"Ellis Ashton Street is also closed due to the ongoing building fire."

Wilson Road fire response is ongoing

Scores of firefighters have battled through the night to put out the huge blaze at part of Huyton Industrial Estate, that has sent huge black clouds of smoke billowing into the sky.

10 fire engines and back-up water pumps have been deployed to tackle the fire on Wilson Road, with the public still urged to avoid the area.

Road closures in place

Merseyside Police said this morning: "Please be aware that due to an incident temporary road closures have been put in place on Wilson Road, Huyton. These closures are from the junctions of Manor Farm Road up to Cronton Road. Due to this we would advise planning an alternative route at this time."

No injuries reported from the scene

No injuries have been reported at the scene, which given the scale of the fire is very fortunate.

MFRS have not yet determined a cause of the fire and that will likely remain the case until investigations can begin on the site, once the fire has been put out.

Bus operator disrupted as blaze continues

As the large ongoing fire on Wilson Road burns into the night, sending up black clouds of smoke, a local transport firm has been told to move its buses while fire fighting operation continues.

Huyton Travel shared: "Due to the fire by the depot. The fire brigade have informed us all buses have to be returned to the depot.

"They are closing the yard while a big hose is run up to the fire."

There have been concerns about the site for a while

The Liverpool Echo reports that a neighbour has had concerns about the recycling plant for a while.

He said: "A few months back they started dealing with household waste, then shut up shop completely a couple of months ago. They used to deal with plastics and metal."

Fire service update

A complex fire suppression operation is currently underway to tackle the large ongoing blaze at Huyton Industrial Estate, with at least 10 fire engines working to put out the flames.A variety of on-the-ground and in-the-air hoses are being directed at individual sections, while a high volume pump is being used to keep the fire crews supplied through the night.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said in an update: "The incident has been sectorised.

"There is one aerial appliance in use in sector one, two main jets and one hose reel jet in use in sector two, one covering branch, one aerial appliance and one hose reel jet in use in sector three, and four main jets in use and one high volume pump being set up in sector four to help boost water supplies.

"This is an ongoing incident, please avoid the area."

Cordon is in place on pathway to site

Police are firefighters are still at the scene and a cordon has been put up to block access for people's safety:
