A1(M) traffic: Chaos on major UK motorway after horror lorry crash
The A1(M) motorway in South Yorkshire was closed southbound between J35 (M18) and J34 (Blyth) sparking delays after a lorry crashed on the route, according to National Highways.
The A1(M) motorway in South Yorkshire was closed going southbound following a lorry crash with an Air Ambulance rushed to the scene.
National Highways said in an update: "The A1M in South Yorkshire is closed southbound between J35 (M18) and J34 (Blyth) due to a collision involving a lorry which has left the carriageway and come to rest in a ditch.
"All emergency services including an Air Ambulance and National Highway Traffic Officers are at the scene."
The authority warned that motorists should " re-route or even delay" their journeys.
Traffic conditions were not expected to return to normal for more than an hour, according to the service.

Recovery arrives at the spot
In an update, the National Highways said that "recovery has now arrived at scene."
The authority wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: "The the #A1M in #SouthYorkshire remains closed southbound between J35 (#M18) and J34 (#Blyth) following a collision involving a lorry which has left the carriageway. Recovery has now arrived at scene.
"There is no significant congestion approaching the closure."

Diverted route to be followed
The National Highways has shared a detailed diversion route as the A1 motorway has been closed due to the collision.
Exit the A1M at J35. At the roundabout take the 1st exit onto the M18 (North) and continue for approx. 10 miles to the junction with the M180. At the interchange exit the M18 at J5. At the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the M180 (East). Continue on the M180 to Junction 1. Exit M180 at Junction 1. At the roundabout take the 4th exit onto A18. Continue on the A18 and at the junction with the A614. Turn left onto the A614. Continue on the A614 for 10 miles to the junction with High Common Lane. Turn right onto High Common Lane. Continue on High Common Lane for approx. 1 mile to the junction with A638. At the A638 junction turn left and proceed along the A638 to the roundabout with A614. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto A614 and continue for approx. 3 miles to the junction with A1M J34. At the roundabout take the 1st exit to re-join A1 south.
