Suhaan Harikumar, 14, from Leicester, died unexpectedly on August 8, leaving his family and friends shocked and heartbroken. His mum, Shehnaaz, says she is now struggling to get through each day, not knowing how she will live the rest of her life without him.

Suhaan also leaves behind two younger sisters, aged 11 and four, who his mum said he loved and cared for.

She told LeicestershireLive: "We were so close. He shared everything with me and we made a point to spend time together."

The schoolboy enjoyed walks and loved nature. In recent years, Suhaan said he liked the idea of becoming a geography teacher.

His mum continued: "I told him he should look for a job that will sustain him going forward, but he said he was never too worried about money - he preferred to give back.

"He was the kind of boy who wouldn't think before giving.”

Shehnaaz said she was "immensely proud" of her son and due to his kind nature, she has launched a crowdfunding campaign in his memory.

All funds will go towards building water wells for poor rural communities internationally.

Each well built will help to provide people with sanitation, cleaning, cooking and the means to grow their own food.

So far, the crowdfunder has raised more than £2,000 of a £10,000 target.

Katy Wheatley, 49, the mother of Suhaan's best friend Oscar, said the idea was fitting and one that "will keep the goodness of him travelling forward in the world in some way".

She said: "This has been a total shock, but the boys are all close and supporting each other. Suhaan was such a kind, gentle person. He was a lovely kid- he really was."

With school restarting in the coming week, Ms Wheatley said the group of friends are worried about the gap Suhaan will leave, and Oscar has told his mum that he doesn’t want people to forget his friend.
