Which Princess Diana dresses are on show at the Kensington Palace exhibition?
A NEW Princess Diana exhibition is set to feature some of her most iconic dresses at her former home Kensington Palace. Ahead of the opening, here is a look at some of her best looks and our favourite pieces from the show.
Diana's Travolta dress
The iconic midnight blue velvet dress worn by Princess Diana as she danced with John Travolta was designed by Victor Edelstein.
Diana wore this piece to a memorable State Dinner at the White House in Washington.
The combination of the ruched body and flowing skirt gave the dress a dramatic silhouette which flared out as the Princess was twirled around by Travolta.
Eleri Lynn, the curator of the exhibition, said that Diana was “influenced by the cinema and the arts and she was also a very capable dancer — she had wanted to be a ballet dancer as a young girl”.

Diana's Elvis dress
Diana dubbed this piece her 'Elvis dress' due to its high collar and dazzling finish.
It was made especially for her by London-based couturière Catherine Walker and was worn to the British Fashion Awards in 1989, and again during a visit to Hong Kong.
The dress is actually two parts: a white silk strapless gown encrusted with pearls and sequins and a matching bolero jacket.

Diana's Harper’s Bazaar cover dress
Diana was photographed in this striking Atelier Versace gown by Patrick Demarchelier in 1991.
The portrait, which features the Princess with a defiant hand on her hip and a wry smile on her lips, graced the cover of the magazine in November 1997, shortly after Diana’s untimely death.
The ice-blue silk gown, embellished with golden studs and glass beads, is thought to be the first dress that Gianni Versace made for Diana.
In 2015 the dress sold at auction for $200,000 (£160,000).

Diana's blue tartan suit
In 1980 Diana wore a blue tartan Victor Emmanuel suit during a visit to Venice.
Its dramatic oversized lapel and matching hat make it one of the Princess’s most memorable looks.
Also featured in the exhibition is Diana's brown tartan suit which she wore during her honeymoon in Balmoral.

Diana's Catherine Walker evening gowns
Diana reportedly owned more than 1,000 Catherine Walker outfits which she collected over 16 years.
In recent years, the designer has begun dressing Diana’s daughter-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge.
Diana looked every inch the princess in a blue silk chiffon gown that she wore it to the 1987 Cannes Film Festival, which she attended with a dapper-looking tuxedoed Prince Charles.
She donned a blue sequinned floor-length gown to a charity ball at Osterly House in Middlesex in 1989.
Diana wore a simple floral cocktail dress in June 1997, when she auctioned off many of her favourite and most iconic pieces to raise money for charity.
The auction brought in $3.25 million for cancer and AIDs charities and took place at Christie’s in New York.
Diana herself posed in each of the dresses for the auction catalogue, as so not to “destroy the magic” of their association with her.

The Princess also turned to the designer when she needed more formal daywear attire.
In 1996 she wore a bold red skirt and jacket while attending the launch of the HIV/AIDs charity London Lighthouse appeal.
She was pictured in a similar suit a year later, this time in soft pink, at the Savoy Hotel in London.
