The Queen brightens up Portsmouth in blue as she visits HMS Lancaster
IT MAY not have been so sunny today, but that didn't stop the Queen from taking a trip to Portsmouth.
The 88-year-old monarch was pictured arriving at the Portsmouth Naval Base this afternoon in order to visit HMS Lancaster.
Her Majesty went on board the Type 23 frigate which has been part of the Portsmouth fleet since 1992.
She arrived at the navy base to be greeted by Commodore Jeremy Rigby before receiving a Royal Salute, and looked lovely in a blue coat which she wore over the top of a floral print dress.
The Queen completed her look with a white and blue hat, white gloves and her trademark black, patent handbag.
After being greeted upon her arrival, the royal then embarked in HMS Lancaster to meet members of the crew before having a private lunch on board.
The Queen is the ship’s sponsor as the Duke of Lancaster and takes a keen interest in her deeds around the globe.
The ship returned to Portsmouth last December following a successful seven-month deployment where she helped to seize drugs worth £160m from smugglers
