'We're sending a tricycle' Boris Johnson treats Prince George to a blue Barclays bike
LONDON mayor Boris Johnson is keen to get Prince George cycling, but he may have to wait a while judging by the fact that the child is just two-weeks-old.
The 49-year-old revealed that he and his team have sent the Royal baby a tricycle "to acculturate him to the joy of cycling."
Speaking on his monthly radio phone-in, Boris said: "I’m sure that all our listeners will be thrilled to know we are sending a tricycle. I think it has gone, I’m not certain actually."
However, when he was asked by LBC 97.3 presenter Nick Ferrari where the tricycle was from, he replied: "Pass," before adding: "I’m afraid I haven’t personally been out shopping. I imagine it’s a beautiful blue."
The blonde politician did admit that the triciyle is a Barclays one, in tribute to the sponsor of his Boris Bikes which are very popular in the Capital.
"My memory is, we are sending a beautiful bouncing blue tricycle to get him on a bike at the earliest possible opportunity and to acculturate him to the joy of cycling," he said.
The gift echos a tandem version of the London hire-bike which Boris gave to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to mark their wedding in 2011.
Painted in the same blue colour scheme as the regular bikes, it carries the number 220713 to represent the Prince's date of birth as well as his name in place of the cycle-hire logo.
