Duke of Kent cancels engagements after suffering stroke
THE Queen’s cousin the Duke of Kent was in hospital last night after suffering a stroke.
He has cancelled or postponed all engagements for the next three weeks after falling ill on Sunday.
Doctors say the 77-year-old Duke, who undertook 239 official engagements last year, has suffered only a mild stroke.
Sources close to the family said he was “feeling well”, was sitting up in bed and expected to be out of hospital in days.
The Duke is 31st in line to the throne. His stroke and the Queen’s poor health highlight the growing age of the Royal Family’s working members.
Palace officials say there are no plans for more younger members of the family, such as Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, to undertake official duties on behalf of the Queen.
