Duchess of Cambridge is 'very Jane Austen' and has no opinion slams comic Sandi Toksvig
COMEDIENNE Sandi Toksvig yesterday criticised the Duchess of Cambridge for not having a "single opinion".
The outspoken BBC Radio 4 host, 54, drew comparisons between Kate and the life of 19th century women depicted by author Jane Austen.
Toksvig said of the pregnant Duchess: "Kate Middleton is not enough for me. We used to admire women who got their place in life through marriage and having children, but I like to think we've grown up a bit."
She added: "I can't think of a single opinion she holds - it's very Jane Austen."
However, Miss Toksvig did admit to warmer feelings towards Cheryl Cole, whom she praised for "saying what she thinks". She also added: "I do fancy her quite a bit".
Her comments come after best-selling novelist Hilary Mantel caused a furore by describing the Duchess of Cambridge as a "shopwindow mannequin" whose only purpose is to breed.
But last week, she said that her words had been taken out of context and had no regrets about her comments.
Last night St James's Palace declined to comment.
