Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor should have his succession rights removed, claims a York MP. The disgraced royal was arrested at his temporary home on the Sandringham estate this morning, shortly after 8am.

As well as losing his titles and honours last year, Andrew was also evicted from 30-room Royal Lodge earlier this month, a royal property that had been his home since 2004. Andrew is currently eighth in line to the throne, with Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Prince Harry and his two children all before him.

Speaking about Andrew, Rachael Maskell, who is a Labour MP for York Central, told the BBC that "time and time again, we have seen that Andrew has been conservative with the truth".

She also revealed that she believes Andrew should also be removed from his role as Counsellor of State.

Last year, Ms Maskell also proposed a change to the law to allow King Charles to remove titles following a recommendation from Parliament or at the request of the title holder.

This was later halted after the government declined the chance for MPs to hold a debate about Andrew.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4, Ms Maskell also said that "transparency" was needed in relation to Andrew's time as a UK trade envoy.

Andrew remains eighth in the line of succession as it would require passing a law to make the change.

It would require consent from 14 Commonwealth realms, including Australia and Canada.

Downing Street previously stated last year that there were no plans for legislative changes to remove Andrew from the line of succession.
