Prince William avoided a question about “change” in the Royal Family during his 2025 Earthshot Prize ceremony yesterday in Brazil. The Prince of Wales, 43, stepped out for The Earthshot Prize on Wednesday in Rio De Janeiro to celebrate the award winners of the prize - a project he founded in 2020 to help improve the state of the planet.

At the event, William sat down on stage for a candid conversation about Earthshot with CNN's Christiane Amanpour. As well as being asked various questions about his environmental project, William also found himself being asked about current changes in the Royal Family.

This started when Amanpour asked the future King about what he meant by change being on his agenda in the future - a comment he made during a special TV appearance with actor Eugene Levy just weeks ago.

She asked William: “Given the fact that there’s been a lot of change in your own family recently, and you yourself have talked about change, just talk about this change a little bit… Where do you see the change and what do you think needs to happen?”

It is believed that Amanpour was hinting at the changes that have surrounded Andrew Mountbatten Windsor over recent weeks, with William’s uncle having lost his royal titles and Royal Lodge home as a result of various scandals.

However, William quickly responded to the question by linking it back to his Earthshot Prize, saying: “I think the Earthshot Prize is a classic example of change. Rather than talk about it, we’re doing it.”

He continued: “I want to surround myself with people who want to make change and do good in the world.”

Royal fans online were quick to notice how William dodged the question, praising the prince for not letting the conversation move from his work to family drama.

One fan wrote on X: “Smart enough to recognize a trap when he sees one and neatly sidesteps it. Not only that, he didn't want to take away from what he was doing to dirty it with family dirty laundry. It wasn't the time or place for that and she should have known better.”

Another commented: “He's the future king of the UK and been taught by the best, he doesn't fall for leading questions, just politely brushes them aside then moves on!”

Someone else said: “She wanted to talk about gossip. He kept it relevant to what the topic is about here. Smart leader!”

Another fan commented: “She thought she could prod Prince William with a question that nodded to all the royal scandals and family drama. But she quickly realized - He wasn’t playing that game. Unlike Harry, William doesn’t air the family laundry in public. He pivoted immediately, redirecting the conversation to his causes and what he hopes to offer the world: a better future for the people of Earth. Say what you will, but that’s the posture of a statesman. A leader.”
