Prince George is well-known to have developed a love of sports from his parents, whether that be swimming, scuba diving or football.

While the 11-year-old currently does triathlons at school as his main hobby, it appears that George has always been passionate about tennis since he was just a few years old.

As his mum Princess Kate is the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, it comes as no surprise that she has tried to help George pursue his passion, which includes setting up lessons for her eldest son with a world number one.

In 2017 during a visit to the Lawn Tennis Association, Kate revealed that George, who was four at the time, had started to learn how to play tennis.

At the time she asked LTA coach Sam Richardson for advice on what she could do to help him develop some tennis schools.

The Mirror reported that the coach said: "She says with George just being four he wants to whack a ball, so she was asking what sort of stuff she should be doing.

“They will struggle at that age to hit a ball. She said he's interested in it, but more in whacking the ball."

Years later, it appears Kate is still trying to help her son nurture his hobby as she arranged for friend and sports star Roger Federer to give the second-in-line to the throne a tennis lesson at her parents' Bucklebury home.

When talking about the experience, former professional tennis player Federer said: "At that stage, it's all about just touching the ball, it's already good. Same with my boys."

The tennis legend also said that Prince George might admire him more than some other players as he had an “advantage”.

According to The Mirror, he said: "I think I have a little advantage that I actually spent some time, you know, with him. I'm the only player he's ever met. Then you have a little head start in who is your favourite player!"

The Swiss player was ranked world No. 1 in singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) for 310 weeks, including a record 237 consecutive weeks, and finished as the year-end No. 1 five times. During his career, he also won 103 singles titles on the ATP Tour, the second most of all time.

It is believed the tennis player is good friends with Kate and the rest of the Wales family.
