The ending of the ESPY Awards descended into chaos - with viewers missing the final award when the show re-ran Prince Harry's segment then abruptly cut off.

Those hoping to discover who had won Best Team at the annual ceremony in Los Angeles were left bitterly dissapointed.

In a bizarre turn of events, those watching on American channel ABC witnessed the footage jump back in time to the moments before the Duke of Sussex picked up the esteemed Pat Tillman Award for Service.

Harry had faced an intense backlash for receiving the ESPN award in honor of a fallen soldier and NFL player, with some warning it is "exceptionally bad publicity".

After re-running clips from Harry's big moment, the coverage then abruptly cut to a closing montage with the credits.

Those watching at home did not discover that the South Carolina Gamecocks were crowned Best Team.

Taking to X amid the strange events, one viewer tweeted: "I'm so confused how the ESPYs ended - someone getting fired."

"Hey @espn what happened to the end of the espys on the east coast feed? It came back from a commercial with the Rob Lowe segment, jumped to Prince Harry segment, and then the credits ran," added another.

A third wrote: "WHY DID ABC REWIND THE SHOW?! NOW HARRY IS BACK ON! THE ESPYS WILL NEVER END!"

Some internet sleuths worked out that the ceremony coverage had abruplty halted because they had run out of time on ABC.

"The #espys just glitched, hit the dreaded 11:30p local news cut off and missed the ENTIRE Prince Harry segment — WOW!!," explained one online detective.

Another pointed out: "The ESPYs ran over their allotted time. ABC provided the normal 35-minute slot for affiliates to air local news. Then the ESPYs continued. Jimmy Kimmel and Nightline are scheduled to air in their entirety after the ESPYs are over."

And the person to blame for this was actually President Biden, whose delayed his high-profile press conference at the NATO summit.

Biden was supposed to start his 'big boys' press conference, his first solo one of the year, at 5:30pm.

But this was pushed back to 6:30pm, and then he didn't actually turn up until about an hour later.

This delay meant that the ABC coverage of the ESPYs began 30 minutes late and wasn't live due to the delay.
