King Charles and Queen Camilla may hold the reins of the British monarchy, but when it comes to life's simple pleasures it appears that they are just like the rest of us.

The King and Queen are in no doubt getting ready for their summer holidays in Scotland after a particularly challenging year, for some well-deserved rest. One of their former members of staff gave a tiny glimpse into their favourite summertime habits.

And one of them is one that the late Queen Elizabeth would never be caught doing. Grant Harrold, who worked as a butler for King Charles from 2004 to 2011 when he was Prince of Wales, said Charles and Camilla, like to indulge every now and then in a refreshing ice cream.

They even like to do this when they are on royal visits - but the way they eat it differs from the late monarch.

Speaking on behalf of Spin Genie, Mr Harrold revealed that when it comes to tucking into ice cream, the royal pair "will eat it out of a cone in public" but the late Queen "never" did this, likely opting for a tub if she fancied a scoop.

He said: "There’s a famous picture of Queen Camilla and King Charles III eating an ice cream out of a cone when they were the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.

"Of course they eat it out of a cone, but while having an ice cream, you should only take little licks of it - they won’t bite chunks off or eat it quickly.

"The idea of an ice cream is to enjoy it and savour it." He added: "If you were having it in a royal home, you would have it in a dish with a little spoon, and no flake!

"When out in public, the royals from what I’ve seen have always had it out a cone like the rest of us.

"I never saw the late Queen eating ice cream out of a cone, so she likely opted for a tub. You never called it an ice cream, always icys."
