Queen Letizia was snapped looking elegant in monochrome as she attended the Princess of Girona Awards alongside her husband King Felipe on Wednesday.

The whole Royal Family of Spain attended the event at the Costa Brava Palace Congress at Lloret de Mar, as Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía joined their parents for the ceremony.

The Spanish Queen wowed in a white Intarsia Knit Dress by Carolina Herrera, featuring a black tulip design, which is from the Pre-Fall 2018 collection.

She paired it with the Bimba 1 Clutch in Black and a pair of 'Falling Jasmine' dangle earrings, also by Carolina Herrera, but it was her choice of shoes that generated the most interest.

Letizia's Boss 'Melanie 50' Padded-Strap Block Heel Sandals in Black, which cost £210.72 (€250) to buy, show that she has sufficiently recovered from an injury which kept her out of heels for a while.

In May, the Queen confirmed she had accidentally broken her toe after she was spotted limping while out and about, meaning she had to stick to trainers and other flat shoes.

Letizia also had to avoid standing for too long to avoid putting too much pressure on her injury, as during April's State Visit from the King and Queen of the Netherlands she had to sit while greeting guests.

Asked about the injury, Letizia said: "It was bad luck. But it will heal. I didn't know what I had until I had the X-ray."

There had also been rumours that the Spanish Queen would have to undergo surgery, but this was shut down by the Palace in Madrid.

In a statement, the Palace said: "It is not true that Her Majesty The Queen is going to undergo surgery for the fracture she suffered in her foot."

Letizia has already faced problems with her feet as she has been diagnosed with Morton's neuroma in her right foot, which causes a thickening of the tissue around one of the nerves leading to the toes.

Along with this, she suffers with chronic metatarsalgia – pain in the ball of the foot – in both of her feet.

Because of this, the Spanish ruler often shuns wearing uncomfortable shoes, but her outfit on Wednesday was received very positively by royal fashion fans on social media.

One person complemented her dress, saying: "I love the floral detailing" followed by two heart-eye emojis, while another added: "Beautiful dress."

A third made a note of her foot issues, commenting: "Good to see her easing back into the heels" followed by a white heart emoji, and a fourth continued: "This is so fresh and youthful. Love it!"

Letizia and Felipe's daughters are following in their mother's fashionable footsteps, as Leonor donned a navy lace dress while Sofía rocked a matching blue trouser and blouse set.
