Prince Harry could put pen to paper once again as he is reportedly writing a second book, but this time with more of a "conciliatory tone", a royal expert has claimed.

In January 2023, the Duke of Sussex shocked the world when he published his memoir, Spare, which featured allegations against the Royal Family. The book went on to become the fastest-selling non-fiction book in British history, shifting more than 400,000 copies in the UK in one day alone.

Royal expert Tom Quinn told the Mirror: "I’m told the couple have discussed Harry writing another book. He can’t write another Spare, but he will be aware that writing a more conciliatory book might even help thaw relations with his brother."

Prince Harry also had said in an interview following the release of his memoir in January 2023 that he had enough material, some 400 pages-worth, to write "two books". Before Spare was officially released, it was mistakenly released in Spain earlier, with journalists scrambling to get a copy to report on what was inside before it was taken off the shelves.

In the ghostwritten memoir Harry, 39, recounts his grief at the death of his mother, Princess Diana, his disputes with brother Prince William and his frustration at the role of royal "spare" in the shadow of his elder sibling, who is heir to the throne.

Tom explained how Harry is "unlikely" to come up with his own commercial project, following the publishing of Spare. He explained: "Beyond writing another book, Harry is very unlikely to come up with his own commercial project. You only have to look at him in his various interviews to see that he probably just doesn’t have the drive or the ability – it’s the result of growing up in a world where other people do everything for you."

After the release of the book, critics pointed out vital information was missing, including why Harry stepped down from the Royal Family with Meghan in 2020 and about their relocation to the US.

But royal author Ingrid Seward thinks the Duke of Sussex will leave the memoir writing to his wife if he pens a sequel. She said: "I can't see that Harry's up for writing another book. I would think the other book, the real corker, would be Meghan. That's got to be [on its way] because that's really going to be the only way she's going to make serious money is [to write it]."

However, some critics think a Spare sequel could scupper the Duke of Sussex's chances of reconciling with the Royal Family. Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield, speaking on her YouTube podcast Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered, said Spare Version 2.0 would jeopardise the Duke's chances of mending relations with his family.

She cautioned that the Duke may not pursue a sequel at a time when his father King Charles and sister-in-law Princess Kate are undergoing treatment for cancer.

Ms Schofield added: "I don't feel like he would put his family in such a weird position while they're battling multiple cancer issues, but I do think it's a no-brainer that if Spare were such a huge financial success for him that he leaned back into that."

She continued: "We know there's still content out there in the world and I hope he wouldn't pursue this if he has any desire whatsoever of a real reconciliation. I think it would just jeopardise any hope of that in the future."
