During his stint on ITV's I'm A Celebrity in 2022, Mike revealed that he was friends with Zara prior to them becoming a couple.
On the show, he said: "We were friends first and then William and Harry were massive England fans at the time, so we'd met them numerous times. Met more of the family than you'd normally have met of the woman you start dating."
He also opened up the couple's first date, revealing that it turned into "quite a boozy one".
He shared: "First actual date, [we] just went out for lunch locally.
"And ended up being quite a boozy one. Then we figured out that we both quite like getting smashed. It was a good start."
By 2004, the couple became "official", with Mike often spotted at various royal events.
The couple wed in Edinburgh in 2011 - the same year that Prince William and Princess Kate tied the knot.

Mike shared that the pair were just at home when they got engaged in 2010 - with Zara even finding the experience amusing.
Previously reminiscing about the special moment to the Daily Mail, Mike said: "She started laughing. [Zara] was in complete shock. Then, when she stopped laughing, she said yes. That was a relief."
The couple are set to celebrate their 13th wedding anniversary later this year, and now have three children - Mia, 10, Lena, five, and two-year-old Lucas.
