King Charles cancer: All the royal events the monarch could miss
King Charles has been diagnosed with cancer and will likely be out of action while he gets treatment - but what royal events could he miss?
Buckingham Palace has announced that King Charles has cancer just weeks after he underwent treatment for an enlarged prostate.
Following the shocking health update, the monarch has postponed public-facing duties while he receives treatment for cancer. The hard-working monarch will, however, continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.
soon as possible.
"His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."
Charles could miss several major royal events. One of these includes the memorial service in London to honour late King Constantine of Greece that is due to take place in just a few weeks, on February 27.
This memorial was originally scheduled for January 27 but was rescheduled for this month so the King could attend after his treatment for an enlarged prostate. Queen Camilla and Prince William will likely attend in his stead.
The King could also miss the Commonwealth Day service on March 11. The annual event is a massive day for royal watchers as every year the Royal Family are out in full force as they head to Westminster Abbey.
Speaking last year, at his first Commonwealth Day as monarch, Charles said: "Commonwealth Day was an occasion of particular pride for my beloved mother, the late Queen—a treasured opportunity to celebrate our Commonwealth family, to whose service she dedicated her long and remarkable life.
"In succeeding Her Majesty as Head of Commonwealth, I draw great strength from her example, together with all that I have learnt from the extraordinary people I have met...over so many years."
Charles is also likely to miss Easter Sunday church service - another massive day for the Firm.
The Royal Family have a massive reunion at Windsor every Easter before they make their way to the Easter Sunday church service at St George’s Chapel where they are greeted by crowds of royal fans hoping to catch a glimpse of the family.
Reportedly, the royals have a tradition of going back to the castle after the church service for a traditional roast lamb lunch.
King Charles has told all of his immediate family about the diagnosis, with those in Britain hearing the news in person. Prince Harry is set to travel to the UK after Charles personally told his younger son the news.
