Prince William and Princess Kate drafted in as King Charles to miss major event
Prince William and Princess Kate will be the royal guests at an event traditionally attended by reigning monarchs, as King Charles set to miss out again
King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to miss one of the biggest events on the royal calendar, with Prince William and Princess Kate are drafted in their place.
The Prince and Princess of Wales are set to attend the Royal Variety Performance next week, held at the Royal Albert Hall in London, joined by Victoria, Crown Princess of Sweden, and her husband Prince Daniel.
Traditionally, the reigning monarch attends the Royal Variety Performance, though King Charles has not been present since ascending the throne in 2022. The King hasn’t attended the event since 2016, though he did deliver a video message during 2020’s show.
The Prince and Princess of Wales will be treated to a performance by music legend Cher, as well as the 100th anniversary celebration of Disney Theatrical, and performances from Swedish chart-topper Zara Larsson, Paloma Faith and Lang Lang.
Bradley Walsh will be the host for the night, which will include theatre performances, comedy and music.
Last year, Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, appeared at the performance on behalf of the Royal Family, and were treated to performances from British singers Ellie Goulding and Becky Hill.
Prince William and Princess Kate will represent the royals at this years event, and are very familiar with their Swedish royal guests. The Waleses met Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel during a tour of Sweden in 2018, when Kate was pregnant with Prince Louis. The couples clearly built a bond, and were seen enjoying themselves during their engagements.
The two princesses share similar interests, with Princess Victoria also involved in charitable work to promote good health among children and young people in Sweden.
