COP26: Prince William introduces Earthshot finalists to leaders
Kate was snapped holding the container of dead larvae out to Wills as they chatted to guests at a reception for members of the Sustainable Markets Initiative who joined the winners and finalists of the first Earthshot Prize Awards. Dressed in a navy suit, the prince can be seen frowning in disgust as Kate, wearing a bright blue gown, beams cheekily at her husband while proffering the creepy crawlies.
The royal couple were in Glasgow for the Cop26 summit where the prince hailed Earthshot Prize Award finalists as "the real superstars" in the room whose potential is "off the charts".
Awarded by the Royal Foundation to five winners each year for their contributions to environmentalism, the Eartshot Prize was first awarded this year and is planned to run annually until 2030.
Each winner receives a grant of £1 million to continue their work on green initiatives.
A photo posted by the Eartshot Prize from the event on Monday shows the prince clutching the jar laughing with Kate and their amused guests.
"Ours is a common mission to look without fear or despair at the challenges ahead in this crucial decade and to believe that we humans have the ingenuity to make the seemingly impossible, possible, but only if we put our collective minds to it," the prince told delegated on Tuesday.
He told world leaders of the need to demonstrate leadership and persuade voters how much cutting climate-heating carbon dioxide matters.
In a tweet, the prince admitted to feeling optimistic as he headed home from the UN conference after discussing prize winners and finalists' solutions to repairing the planet.
Prince William's speech came after the Queen gave a welcoming address on Monday telling those gathered in Glasgow that the impact of the environment on human progress was a subject dear to the heart of the Duke of Edinburgh.
