Meghan and Harry branded 'embarrassing' after secret wedding claim debunked
MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry have been branded "embarrassing" by a royal expert after their secret wedding claim was debunked.
Meghan Markle: GMB react to Archbishop's statement on 'wedding'
During the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's explosive Oprah Winfrey interview, which aired earlier this month, Meghan claimed they were secretly married by the Archbishop of Canterbury in their "backyard" three days before their royal wedding. Harry added that it was "just the three of us".
But the Most Reverend Justin Welby has confirmed the legal wedding was in Windsor on May 19 2018.
Royal author Robert Jobson branded the secret wedding claim "embarrassing" in a post on Twitter.
Mr Jobson said: "Let’s not just blame Meghan 'my truth' Markle for the bizarre claims of a 'secret wedding' ... 'Haz' (don’t call me Prince) agreed and told the interrogator & truth seeker @Oprah: 'Just the three of us.'
"Sorry, the Archbishop of Canterbury has a very different view. Embarrassing."
Royal biographer Angela Levin also hit out at Meghan over her secret nuptials claim.
She tweeted: "The Archbishop of Canterbury states firmly that Harry and Meghan were NOT married three days before the wedding ceremony and that if they had he would have 'committed a serious criminal offence'.
"How shameful that Meghan had no qualms about drawing him into her fantasies."
In an interview with Italian newspaper la Repubblica, Mr Welby confirmed the legal wedding was on the Saturday - not three days before.
He said: "If any of you ever talk to a priest, you expect them to keep that talk confidential.
"It doesn't matter who I'm talking to.
"I had a number of private and pastoral meetings with the duke and duchess before the wedding.

"The legal wedding was on the Saturday.
"I signed the wedding certificate, which is a legal document, and I would have committed a serious criminal offence if I signed it knowing it was false."
During the Sussexes' TV interview, Meghan told Winfrey: "You know, three days before our wedding we got married.
"No-one knows that, but we called the Archbishop and we just said, 'Look, this thing, this spectacle, is for the world, but we want our union between us'."
She said the vows they have framed are "just the two of us in our backyard with the Archbishop of Canterbury".
Earlier this month, a spokesperson for the Sussexes was forced to clarify the secret wedding was in fact an informal exchange of vows.
The claim was just one revelation in the couple's controversial TV interview.
