PRINCESS DIANA was enamoured with Sarah Ferguson's "flamboyance", according to royal commentators, who gave further insight into the relationship between the two royals.
Princess Diana 'looked up to' Sarah Ferguson says Cundy
Princess Diana "sought out pointers" from Sarah Ferguson at the start of her relationship with Prince Charles, royal commentators have claimed. The friendship between the two women was discussed on Channel 5's documentary: 'Fergie Vs Diana: Royal Wives At War'. Royal experts pointed to the Duchess of York's "experience" as something the Princess of Wales was attracted to.
Lizzie Cundy, a friend of Ms Ferguson's, said: "As Diana embarked on her life as a princess, she came to rely on her friend, Fergie.
"Diana looked up to Sarah because she was so flamboyant.
"Sarah just seemed to be kind of like that older sister in a way."
Former Daily Mail royal correspondent Richard Kay agreed, saying: "Diana was obviously that much younger, and she was on the cusp of marrying the heir to the throne."

He continued: "If anything she probably sought out Fergie for some pointers really.
"Fergie's father was sort of involved with Charles on a regular basis."
Sarah's father, Major Ronald Ferguson, was a polo manager, initially to Prince Philip and later, for many years, to Prince Charles.
Due to his close association with the monarchy, Sarah grew up with many of the royals.
Princess Diana: Fergie 'very important' in her life says expert
Psychologist and relationship coach, Jo Hemmings spoke about the relationship between Diana and Sarah.
She told Channel 5: "I think both girls actually admired things in each other that they didn't have.
"Diana wanted to be that slightly more devil-may-care, boisterous, robust individual that just seemed very comfortable in her own skin."

Ms Hemmings added: "Fergie probably wanted some of that rather sweet, shy mellowness that Diana had.
"Fergie had so much more life experience than Diana.
"By the time she was in her 20s, she'd had two live-in relationships.
"One of them with a man who was 22 years older than her.
"So at that point, when Diana was very young, those two years must have seemed incredibly significant."
