Meghan Markle and Harry ordered to renounce royal titles before further damage to Queen
MEGHAN MARKLE and Prince Harry have been told they must immediately renounce their royal titles to prevent causing further damage to the Queen's reputation.
Meghan Markle and Harry discuss the upcoming US election
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are facing a mounting backlash for making a statement on US politics in a recent video. The couple did not back a particular political party, but by openly discussing the November Presidential election and calling on Americans to vote the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been accused of crossing a line.
Dan Wootton, who is executive editor of The Sun newspaper and host of talkRADIO’s derivative show, has hit out at the couple and urged them to renounce their ties to the British Royal Family.
He wrote on Twitter: “If Harry and Meghan want to become political campaigners for the Democratic party that is their choice, but they MUST renounce their royal titles immediately before further damage is done to the monarchy.”
Other social media users agreed, with one person writing: “They should be stripped of their titles. British Royal Family campaigning for an American political party. Total disgrace.”
Another person wrote: “Whilst they left the UK for privacy this present political platforming is another matter entirely and it's unacceptable for Harry to continue in this disrespectful way towards HM the Queen.”
Despite officially stepping down as senior royals in March, Meghan and Harry are still members of the Royal Family.
But the couple no longer formally represent the Queen and are not working royals.
When quitting the Firm Meghan and Harry were told they could no longer use their HRH (His Royal Highness/Her Royal Highness) titles, but they would still be known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Traditionally members of the Royal Family have to remain politically neutral and should never participate in elections, either by voting or stating a political allegiance.
This is why the two-minute long video clip has prompted such a furore among commentators and the British public.

Outspoken GMB host Piers Morgan also responded to the news with fury, and wrote on Twitter: "Prince Harry poking his woke nose into the US election and effectively telling Americans to vote against President Trump is completely unacceptable behaviour for a member of the Royal Family."
Hundreds of social media users have also condemned the pair, and urged the Sussexes to stay out of US politics.
