Royal heartbreak: Why Sarah Ferguson was set to make history at Beatrice’s wedding
PRINCESS BEATRICE's wedding was sadly postponed due to overwhelming consequences of the coronavirus pandemic back in May - stopping her mother Sarah Ferguson from making history at the momentous occasion.
Princess Beatrice: Expert discusses potential new wedding date
Beatrice has postponed her wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi several times over the past few months, amid growing concerns about the pandemic. She had planned to wed her boyfriend, affectionately known as Edo, in St James’ Palace in London, on May 29. The occasion would have been followed up with a reception held at the Queen’s gardens at Buckingham Palace — yet, nationwide lockdown means the plans are still up the air for now.
Last year, People Magazine explained why this wedding could have been significant for the bride's mother, too.
An editorial read: “Earlier this year, a law passed allowing couples in Britain to include their mothers’ names on their marriage certificates.
“Previously, only the fathers of the bride and groom were recorded in the church records.”
This means Sarah Ferguson, affectionately known as Fergie, was going be the first mother of the bride recorded at a royal wedding.
When news of Beatrice’s engagement broke last Autumn, Fergie wrote on Twitter: “I know what a mother feels so I have tears of joy.
“I am so proud of this sensational news.
“Andrew and I are just the luckiest people ever to have two great sons in law.”

Beatrice has known her fiancé since childhood, although their relationship only became official towards the end of 2018.
She is the ninth-in-line to the throne and the second female in the line of succession after Princess Charlotte.
Fergie’s other daughter, Princess Eugenie, married in October 2018 before the law had passed.
Beatrice, like Eugenie, was given the title of princess when she was born, as she is the daughter of the Queen’s son Prince Andrew.

While some royals reject titles for their spouses — such as Princess Anne and her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips — Edo will have the opportunity to take a title upon his wedding day not available to Beatrice’s brother-in-law.
Edo’s father is Count Allessandro Mapelli Mozzi, a skier who can trace his heritage back to Italian aristocracy.
Count Alessandro told the Daily Mail: “Edoardo is the only male descendant taking the family into the next generation.
“He is a count — his wife will be countess automatically and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna.”
In contrast, Eugenie’s husband Jack was not granted any such title upon his wedding in 2018.
Instead, Eugenie dropped the York part of her name as her father is the Duke of York, and instead became known as Princess Eugenie, Mrs Jack Brooksbank.
A source told People back in October that Beatrice also planned for a different kind of wedding compared to her sister Eugenie.
The insider said: “Beatrice and Eugenie are super close but they are very different.
“Beatrice is more serious and Eugenie is the outgoing extrovert, she’s so bubbly and fun.
“Beatrice is more reserved and discreet.
“She holds back more, she is very polite, very well-educated but more formal and quiet in her personality, so I think it will be a very different wedding to Eugenie’s.”
Eugenie married at St George's Chapel, in Windsor Castle, the same venue as Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle.
