Prince Louis title snub: The one thing Louis doesn't qualify for when William becomes king
PRINCE LOUIS warmed hearts around the nation on his second birthday in April. But what right given to his siblings will he miss out on?
Royal titles: A look at the British line of succession
Prince Louis is the youngest son of Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge. Louis is fifth in line to the throne behind his grandfather Prince Charles, father and siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte. But why will Prince Louis not qualify for one thing bestowed to Prince George and Princess Charlotte?
One of the rights of royal life is the endowment of particular honours and titles.
Upon his marriage to Kate, the Queen handed Prince William a dukedom, making the couple the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Due to the seniority of Prince William’s position, his children are entitled to use the title of Prince and Princess.
However, their second cousins the Tindalls and Philips do not use these titles.

At the time of his birth in April 2018, Louis’ official title is His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.
However, unlike his siblings, Prince William will likely not be granted a royal title when his father becomes king.
This is because he is the youngest of the Cambridge children and therefore will likely never be King.
According to the old rules of primogeniture which were changed in 2011, he would likely have been fourth in line to the throne and therefore given a title upon his father’s accession.
For hundreds of years, the British throne has followed male-preference primogeniture, placing all brothers ahead of sisters in line to the throne.
The change to the rules of primogeniture meant Princess Charlotte made history when Louis was born.
She is the first royal to remain ahead of her younger brother in the line of succession.
Princess Charlotte’s title is likely to change when her father becomes king.

She will likely be given the Princess Royal title which is currently held by her great aunt, Princess Anne who is the Queen’s only daughter.
This title is traditionally given to the eldest daughter of the monarch.
As Prince Charles has no daughter, the next monarch’s daughter after Princess Anne will be Princess Charlotte.
Although some experts believe it possible Charlotte could be given a peerage instead.
Prince George is third in line to the throne and highest in the line of succession of all the Queen’s great-grandchildren.
One day Prince George is forecast to become King and therefore his title will likely change several times as he grows older.
When his grandfather Prince Charles, Prince of Wales ascends the throne, Prince William will likely become Prince of Wales.
Therefore, George, will one day be named Prince of Wales when his father is king.
However, it is not a complete loss for Prince Louis.
It is likely he will be granted a dukedom if or when he marries, potentially taking on the dukedom currently held by his father or grandfather.
A spokesperson from etiquette agency Debretts told Express.co.uk: “Prince Louis may well take up one of his father’s lesser titles, which in time will include those currently held by Prince Charles.
“Although the majority of Charles’ titles could be used by George, given that he will be the Prince of Wales someday.
“Louis is, however, unlikely to get a Dukedom until he gets married.”
