Princess Diana may have inspired one of Michael Jackson's biggest songs
PRINCESS DIANA had many high profile friends, including the late pop superstar Michael Jackson, and fans have speculated the royal was behind his smash hit "Dirty Diana".

The song “Dirty Diana” was a collaboration between Michael Jackson and Steve Stevens released in 1988, and It is probably one of the hardest rock songs in Jackson’s catalogue. Stevens was formally a guitarist for 1980s rock god Billy Idol whose edgy sound is said to have inspired Jackson in the '80s.
The musical pairing delighted music buffs and peaked on the Billboard 100, as it became the fifth number-one single from Jackson’s album Bad.

Many fans suspected at the time of the song’s release that the catchy tune was about Michael Jackson’s friend Princess of Wales.
In 1997 Jackson gave a one on one interview with legendary TV host Barbara Walters for the documentary “Man in the Mirror.”
During the course of the conversation, Walters pressed Jackson to reveal if the iconic hit was about Princess Diana.
The pop-star revealed it was not about her, however, he did provide insights to his relationship with Diana.
He said that Diana was: “ very kind, very loving, [and] very sweet.”

The interview shut down the rumours that Jackson had perceived Diana in the way he portrayed the lady in “Dirty Diana.’
In the past critics have labelled the song to be “sexist” however Jackson maintained that it is one of his favourites.
The unlikely friendship of Diana and the popstar was one based upon trust, as both have recalled.
They were close companions and often spent hours on the phone to each other, as Jackson explained to Walters.

Jackson recalled: “She was extremely close by phone… I was still married to Lisa Marie [Presley].
“Diana woke me up usually late at night… mostly after three in the morning! And then she held me for hours on the telephone.
“She talked about children, the press,” he added.
Her death in 1997 left Jackson emotional after he learnt of her death from his doctor.
Jackson felt pain in his stomach and chest which he described as intuition that another famous figure would pass away soon.
Not long after that Mother Theresa passed away, and Barbara Walters asked Jackson if he was a psychic.
The singer said he wouldn’t describe himself as a psychic but he had often had intuitions that turned out to be true.
