Diana: Paul Burrell claims Diana looked to move to USA

Mr Burrell’s description of the conversations between and her mother Frances Shand Kydd stunned royal fans. The former butler, who served Princess Diana from 1987 until she died in 1997, claimed Mrs Shand Kydd called her daughter Diana a “wh***’” for dating Pakistani surgeon Hasnat Khan and Egyptian socialite Dodi Fayed after divorcing from the Prince of Wales. But this latest revelation didn’t go down well with some Twitter users, who branded the former butler’s words “distasteful” and urged him to stop spilling the late princess’ secrets.

One wrote on Twitter: “I find it disgusting that Princess Diana’s former employee Paul Burrell continues to milk her legacy for all its worth.

“If he had a modicum of respect for her and her sons he would shut up.

“It’s easy to attribute anything to the departed but so distasteful.”

Another argued Mr Burrell should be “ashamed” of still opening up on Diana’s secrets.

They said: “If he had any respect for his one-time boss and her family, surely he would have held family secrets as private and kept them out of the news.

“Shame on you Paul Burrell”.

Mr Burrell made his latest sensational claim after a documentary aired on the Smithsonian Channel in the US, titled “Princess Diana’s Wicked Stepmother”.

The film focused on Countess Raine Spencer, the second wife of Earl John Spencer, and her impact on Diana.

However, it also touched upon the relationship between Mrs Shand Kydd and her daughter.

Mr Burrell told Fox News, recalling what he believes was the last conversation between the mother and daughter: “I was in my little pantry underneath the main staircase of Kensington Palace and I could hear this sobbing coming out of [Diana’s] room.

“Then she shouted, ‘Paul, please come. Come quick.’

“So I ran up the staircase, and I found the princess crumpled in the middle of her room with the telephone to her ear, and she beckoned me to come closer.

“I could hear what her mother was saying.

“She said, ‘Listen. Listen to what mummy’s saying.’

“Mrs Shand Kydd had had a few to drink that night.

“She was berating the princess and then calling her a wh***.

“She said, ‘That’s what you are. I’ve raised a wh***, wh****g around town with Muslim men. You should be ashamed of yourself’.

“Diana was sobbing, saying ‘Mummy, please don’t say those words to me.

“‘Please don’t call me those names’. She begged her.

“She kept begging her not to say it.

“Of course, she’s repeating it in her drunkenness. Diana eventually said, ‘I’m going to put the phone down and I’ll never speak to you again.’

“And that’s exactly what she did. She never did speak to her mother again.”
