THE QUEEN made a very special gesture to thank those in the armed forces for her Diamond Jubilee in 2012, a documentary has revealed.
Queen sends gifts to troops to mark Diamond Jubilee in 2012
In the Channel 5 documentary ‘Inside Fortnum and Mason: The Queen’s Grocer’, it was revealed that she decided to send them some treats. The Queen sent 15,000 tins of tea and biscuits from luxury grocer Fortnum and Mason to British troops around the world. The documentary emphasised how this indicates Fortnum and Mason’s royal connections are “as strong as ever”.
Known as ‘the Queen’s grocer’, Fortnum and Mason provides tea for Buckingham Palace itself.
Former royal press secretary Dickie Arbiter said: “The Queen likes Earl Grey tea, she has Earl Grey in the morning.
“But the Assam tea is also available in Buckingham Palace.”
However, the tea and biscuits were not the only gifts Her Majesty had for her armed forces.

In addition, more than 440,000 official Diamond Jubilee medals were manufactured and awarded to those in the armed forces, emergency services and prison service.
The Diamond Jubilee marked the 60th anniversary of her accession to the throne, the second monarch to ever reach this landmark anniversary.
Commemorative events were held in the UK and throughout the Commonwealth.
The Queen, who turned 86 in the year of her Diamond Jubilee, toured around the UK but sent her children and grandchildren as her representatives overseas.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, for example, toured the rainforests of Borneo before visiting Singapore, Malaysia, the Solomon Islands and Tuvalu.
The Diamond Jubilee Concert was held outside Buckingham Palace on The Mall in June 2012, organised by Take That singer-songwriter Gary Barlow.
The concert was partially attended by the Queen herself, who arrived at 9pm, but she was not accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh.
Unfortunately, Prince Philip had to be taken to hospital earlier that day with a bladder infection.
However, Prince Charles and other members of the Royal Family attended the whole concert.
The Queen’s next jubilee will be her Platinum Jubilee in 2022, which will mark 70 years on the throne.
She will be 96 years old when she reaches this milestone, which is expected to be celebrated on an even larger scale than her previous jubilees.
