The Queen to have SECRET dinner with US Ambassador ahead of Trump visit
THE Queen will join the US Ambassador for a private dinner next month which could set the scene for a full state visit by President Donald Trump.
Donald Trump BLOCKS Queen during Royal Guard inspection
Her Majesty is reportedly dining with Woody Johnson at Winfield House, the US Ambassador’s residence in London, on March 14. It is rare for the monarch to hold such dinners and they would usually take place at one of her royal residences, highlighting the importance of the meeting. Buckingham Palace has declined to comment on a “private” engagement.
Mr Johnson was appointed as the US Ambassador to the UK by Mr Trump in 2017.
The dinner, reported in the Daily Mail, could pave the way for the US President to visit Britain for the second time.
Last July, the US President travelled to the UK for a four-day working visit.
During the trip, Mr Trump met the Queen at Windsor Castle with his wife Melania.
The US President and the monarch inspected a guard of honour before having afternoon tea at the royal residence.
Mr Trump became the twelfth American President the Queen has met during her reign.
He later said they “got along fantastically well” and had “good chemistry”.
However, thousands of anti-Trump protesters took to the streets to protest against the visit, which also saw the US President meet Prime Minister Theresa May and head to his Ayrshire golf course in Scotland.
The red carpet could be rolled out once again for the US President this summer, in what would be a major post-Brexit boost to Britain.
No date has been set but planning for a full state visit is said to be underway.
Details are being discussed by Buckingham Palace, Downing Street and the White House.
Mr Trump and the First Lady would stay with the Queen and attend a state banquet during the visit which could be up to a week long.
