Security heightened as Queen attends Sunday service

CROWDS who went to watch the Queen attend church yesterday again faced tough security checks.

Police with sniffer dogs and scanners were on guard as visitors approached St Mary Magdalene's in Sandringham. Last month extra precautions, were brought in over fears of a potential terrorist attack on the 20,000-acre estate. They included armed police at roadblocks, barriers and bag searches.

Yesterday the 92-year-old monarch, undaunted by the security fears, sported a striking purple coat and hat ensemble with satin buttons and trim.

The service was attended by other members of the Royal Family including the Queen's nephew Earl Snowdon and her cousin's daughter Lady Helen Taylor.

The Queen will remain at Sandringham until next month.
