Prince William and Kate arrive for Mental Health Summit
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge recognised the eight finalists ahead of this weekend’s Teen Hero Awards for their outstanding dedication to others.
Kate and William spoke with the teens about their achievements and how they have made a difference in their communities.
One was 14-year-old Lily who is a wheelchair motocross competitor and advocate.
Siena, 16, spoke with the royal couple about her work to support students with autism and learning disabilities.
She described Kate and Will as “incredibly warm, supportive and encouraging”.
Also 14-year-old Junior is a dancer who told Kate and William about her anti-bullying campaign.
Those three teens have also won the award and will be given their prize on Sunday at Wembley Arena alongside performances by girl group Little Mix and Liam Payne.
It was reported the Duke and Duchess had an “incredible selection of biscuits that were on offer”.
The teens met the royal couple with Radio 1 DJs Greg James and Clara Amfo.
Mr James, who is hosting the awards ceremony, said for the teens to meet the royals “shows how much their selfless work is appreciated”.
Mr James added: “To be recognised as making a difference to other people’s lives by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will inspire them to carry on the extraordinary work they already do.”
Ms Amfo told the BBC: “Every single one of them brings a unique and more than valid reason to be celebrated amongst their peers for their contributions to their respective communities.
Kate Middleton returns from maternity leave to visit school
“We’re all looking forward to making them feel like the superstars that they are on Sunday.”
This is the third year in a row that the royal couple have invited the Teen Hero Award finalists to Kensington Palace.
Last year Kate and William appeared on Radio on to support DJ Adele Roberts, who was running the London Marathon, and speak about mental health awareness.
Kate has kept herself busy since coming back maternity leave following the birth of Prince Louis.
