COMPOSER Andrew Lloyd Webber yesterday urged colleagues in the House of Lords not to defy the will of the people by trying to obstruct Brexit.

A spokesman for the Cats and Evita co-creator said the Tory peer would vote with the Government to start the Brexit process, despite having backed Remain in last year’s referendum.
“He feels very strongly that an unelected House of Lords should not overrule the will of the people,” said the spokesman.

He issued the assurance as peers started their debate on the Bill to let Theresa May trigger formal Brexit talks with the rest of the European Union by invoking Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty by March 31.
The Government does not have a majority in the Lords and could be defeated there in votes this week as peers, including Tory rebels like Lord Heseltine, call for changes to the EU (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill.
Some peers want to guarantee the rights of EU citizens living in Britain and a second referendum for the public to give their verdict on the Brexit deal.
