Nigel Farage has revealed that Donald Trump will be affected by the second assassination attempt “for the rest of his life”.

The Reform UK leader, who spoke to the former US president on Monday night, said the Republican candidate “was putting on a strong, brave face” after the foiled plot on Sunday.

He also said Mr Trump was “keen” to discuss “what’s happening in Britain”.

But Mr Farage warned the “rhetoric” about Mr Trump does “engender a certain kind of hatred”.

Vice President Kamala Harris has revealed she was "briefed immediately after" Sunday's assassination attempt against Mr Trump and that she is grateful "he's okay."

Mr Farage told his GB News show: “It’s bad enough being shot at and hit at a public rally, but for Donald Trump, his two real safe places are Mar-a-Lago and the golf club just down the road.

“That is where he spends his time surrounded by his family, his friends, and where he relaxes and enjoys himself.

“He was on the fifth, on his way to a birdie so he says, when somebody who for 12 hours waited in the bushes on the sixth hole.

“Had the Secret Service not spotted the man with the rifle, Donald Trump would not be alive today.

“I picked up the phone last night and spoke to him. He answered the phone first ring.

“I just wanted to find out how he was.

“He was putting on a strong, brave face on it, keen to talk about what’s happening in Britain.

“This has to have a very, very tough effect on him for the next 50 days and probably for the rest of his life.

“I’m pleased to say someone much more important than me picked up the phone – Joe Biden.

“Biden is now going to afford both Trump and Harris the same level of Secret Service coverage that the President had.

“Frankly, it should have been like this from the start.

"It does come down to rhetoric. Trump says it is the rhetoric that has caused this.

“Biden said it is time to put Trump in the bullseye.”

The suspect in the attempted assassination of Mr Trump spent almost 12 hours lying in wait for the former president at his golf course, according to court documents.

Ryan Wesley Routh allegedly took up position at the Trump International Golf Course in Florida just before 2am on Sunday, officials said.

They said they were able to pinpoint this using his mobile phone data.

He is said to have camped at the spot, where he was concealed in the treeline, with food and an assault rifle until 1.31pm, when he was reportedly spotted by Trump’s security team and fled in a black Nissan without opening fire.

Routh was arrested on Sunday and appeared in court on Monday.
