Grease stains are a nightmare to remove - but not with this handy hack.

You can pick up greasy marks on your clothes from all sorts of places. Whether you've been chowing down on some greasy food, cooking using oil that's splashed up at you or even applying a particularly greasy suncream that's left a mark on your shirt, it doesn't take much to stain your favourite outfit.

And to make matters worse, grease stains aren't easy to clean. Simply washing your clothes often isn't enough to get the stain out, and if the garment you've stained isn't white, then using bleach can be risky as you might end up draining the colour away.

Thankfully though, one cleaning fan has revealed how to guarantee you can banish your grease stains in minutes.

What's more, the hack should even work if the garment has already been washed. Normally, doing this would set the stain and make it even harder to remove, but not with this trick.

Author and home hack guru Laura de Barra shared a video on her @lauradebarra TikTok account in which she explained all you need to do is take some washing up liquid and rub it into the stain, before popping it in the washing machine.

She said: "This works even if you've washed the garment already. All you want to do is get some washing up liquid and you just want to rub it into the stain, and then you'll wash as normal."

For more intense stains, Laura said you may have to repeat the process more than once to make sure the stain is completely removed.

She continued: "If the stain has been on there a long time you may need to do this twice, but it will come out. Also, air dry [the garment]. Don't use heat as some food grease stains may have dye in them."

The cleaning fan then showed a dark coloured jumper that she'd tried the hack out on herself, and proved it was spotless once she'd taken it out of the washing machine and dried it.

Commenters on the video were blown away by the hack, with some branding it "magic".

One person said: "Ooh I've got 4 tops in a pile that I was able to throw out due to stains, trying this!"

Another added: "I was spending a fortune on stain removers til I realised how good fairy liquid was at getting stains out!"

While a third stated: "This works, I’ve been doing this for ages now and love it."
