‘I went to one of the best one-day spas but there is something I would avoid’

I went for some R&R at the Sofitel Hotel in London's St James, just a stone's throw away from Pall Mall and Waterloo Gardens.

When it comes to feeling like you need a bit of TLC, there is nothing better than a spa day which can relax your body and mind.

So that is what I wanted to do but instead of your typical spa day where you lounge by the pool, I decided to treat myself and go for something a little bit more decadent.

I went to the Sofitel Hotel in London’s St James, just a stone’s throw away from Pall Mall and Waterloo Gardens.

The hotel’s package which they offer is called Spa and Spritz and includes a 60-minute massage, a three-course meal at Bistrot at Wild Honey and a Spritz cocktail at Bistrot on the Terrace.

All of this sounds pretty good, for £130 per person, right?  Once we arrived at the hotel we were treated to a private use of the sauna and steam room for 30 minutes each.

Not only did we sweat out any toxins in the steam room but our skin also felt much more hydrated.

Meanwhile, in the sauna having our own private use is much more comfortable without having to sit there awkwardly in a room half-naked with strangers.

Once our time was up here we made our way to the massage. I decided to opt for a deep tissue massage with the masseuse helping me to feel relaxed and get rid of knots in my back.

The one hour flew by with my body feeling much more relaxed and less tense than before. Sofitel lives up to its reputation of five stars by going the extra mile in terms of its friendliness and customer service.

Everyone we met at the hotel was more than happy to help and we were greeted with a warm welcome each time (which goes a long way in your overall experience and making it a memorable one).

Next, we headed for some lunch at Bistrot at Wild Honey where we got to pick from an al-a-carte menu.  The service was great and the restaurant made you feel like you were on a weekend away in Paris.

For starters, we ordered pig’s head and courgette flowers which were the highlight of the meal.

Some people might be put off at the thought of eating pig’s head but it tasted like you were tucking into pork belly with the meat melting in your mouth.

Meanwhile, the courgette flowers had enough crunch and flavour to keep wanting to come back for more.

For the main we decided to go for Cornish Plaice and a smashed burger despite having plenty of flavour we both felt a little let down by the second course.

There was a slight BBQ taste with the sauce paired with the fish which felt like it didn’t fit the dish. Yet, the burger also had a similar jam-like texture which made the burger taste slightly odd.

Finally, for dessert, we opted to share a chocolate tart which was so moorish that we couldn’t help but want more.

After lunch, we moved to the outdoor terrace where got to try a spritz cocktail where the classic Aperol and Hugo on offer. Thankfully the British weather held its own and we got to bask in the sun with our cocktail in hand.

Overall, the Sip and Spritz package was worth the money and you can’t help but feel refreshed and relaxed at the end of a pampering day.
