Rare coins can fetch a hefty sum, especially those special ones with minting errors.

In recent months, we've seen numerous treasures sell for thousands more than their face value. Just recently, a rare penny coin with a "unique" date was auctioned off for a staggering £140,000.

It just goes to show that you never know what could be hiding in your private collection.

Now, let's turn our attention to £2 coins. There are three specific designs which one collector believes could be worth "thousands".

TikTok user @CoinCollectingWizard regularly delights his 174,100 followers with updates on special finds to look out for, posting a new video on a daily basis.

In a recent clip, he highlighted three pieces. He said: "Whip out those £2 coins, some of them are worth thousands."

Speaking about the 2014 coin commemorating the 100th year anniversary of the First World War, he said: "The error version is missing the words 'Two Pounds' from the side.

"The 2014 coin was released nine years ago to mark 100 years since the start of WWI. It features an image of Lord Kitchener, a prominent British war figure who appeared on government propaganda posters. Only the version with the missing wording is worth £1,000+."

Collectors are currently buzzing about a £2 coin with a quirky design flaw which appears to sport a "fried egg" due to a mishap where the centre spilled into the outer rim. The rarity of this error could net owners upwards of £600.

Another sought-after miscalculation from 2014 is stirring interest, this one involving a coin emblazoned with incorrect lettering on its face. Such a mistake might increase the value to around £30, as per expert assertion.

Social media has been ablaze since the revelation, with the post accruing hundreds of reactions and comments, including feedback like: "Thanks for that skull one bro."

And another chiming in with: "I have the same one."
