Summer is in full swing – and the weather is certainly shining across the UK.

With the weekend right around the corner, you're probably thinking of dusting off your swimsuit for a refreshing dip in the pool. But now according to a nurse, you should avoid certain swimsuit colours.

It turns out choosing the colour of your swimwear is very crucial – and could prove dangerous. TikTok user and nurse José Ángel explained the matter in a clip with his 5.9million followers.

He suggested the colour of children's swimwear also contributes to their safety underwater. Known as @Enfermerojoseangel on the platform, the clip scooped over 306.8million likes.

José explains that swimwear colour can "prevent an accident" because it could improve visibility underwear. He showed a girl entering the pool wearing a garment almost the same colour as the water.

Doing that could make it difficult for the accompanying adult to spot her. He recommends avoiding green and blue colours for pool swimwear.

José insists it's best to opt for bright colours like pink, yellow and orange as they're "more visible". He stated in the video: "I would almost make this a rule."

Finally, the TikTok user also advises choosing fluorescent colours not only for children's swimwear but also for adults. This recommendation applies to pools, beaches, lakes, and rivers alike.

He said in the video: "I would almost make this a rule. Your swimsuit colour can save your life in case of an accident. Not only in children, but also in adults.

"If we chose colours like green or blue, they are almost not visible underwater. However, other colours like pink, yellow, orange, or fluorescent colours are much more visible."

Since it was shared, many viewers rushed to the comments section to praise the nurse for his insight. One said: "I always take my son dressed like a beacon, orange or fluorescent yellow."

Another added: "I look like a warning sign in my swimsuit." Then a third joked: "It's why I bathe naked."
