With all the joys that summer brings, it can come with an increase in pesky pests entering our home and garden. Warm and humid weather encourages mosquitoes, flies, gnats and moths to breed, but Amazon shoppers are hailing a £24 tool for keeping insects at bay.

The Buzbug LED Zapper Lamp is almost half price at Amazon, retailing for £23.99 rather than its usual price tag £42.99. It doesn't look unsightly like some insect repellants can, in fact, it even won an iF Design Award in 2023 thanks to its smart apperance.

Buzbug's device is able to cover a wide area (up to 2,100 sq. ft.) witt 360° all-round protection. It can be placed in any space including the living room, kitchen, dining room, balcony, and garden, using UV-LED technology to attract and then zap insects.

The Buzbug zapper has a slide-out insect collection tray that is removable and washable, and the product can be simply cleaned with the included small brush. It won't emit any odour or smoke but it is important to note that it is not waterfproof so shouldn't be submerged or kept outside in an unsheltered area.

More than 1,000 people have left reviews for the lamp on Amazon, giving it an overall rating of 4.1 out of five stars. Explaining how the lamp 'works a treat', one person wrote: "Brilliant bug zapper, looks quite nice in the home which is rare for a bug killer. We keep it in the kitchen and only need to turn it on for an hour at night to clear the room of all the bugs, so the electric cost isn't really a consideration, especially with the LED instead of the traditional bulbs."

Another said that although it can be loud, it does an excellent job. They shared: "We bought this to help the influx of flies during summer when we have the windows and doors open. It is at its most efficient at night, and be aware the pops from the flies being zapped is loud, but it’s very successful at killing them! It gives a nice purple hue in the dark too. Uses very little electricity."

Others shared that they liked how it is 'nice and compact' and 'doesn't take up too much space'. If you would prefer a device that repels insects without harming them, Lakeland's Thermacell Halo Mini Patio Shield Mosquito and Midge Repeller is £34.99.

The portable design uses a heat activated repellent mat to create a 15ft zone of protection. It is currently more expensive than the Buzbug, howver one thrilled customer wrote: "We live in a rural area with a garden stream, long established trees, shrubs, bushes and hordes of flying midges which emerge in the evening. In the 34 years we have lived here we have never been able to sit outside in the evening without being heavily pestered/bitten.

"We bought and used the Thermacell Halo Mini and for the first time ever we are now able to sit out until after dark and enjoy bug-free peace and tranquillity. We can see a few of them hovering just outside the wide coverage area which they don’t enter at any stage. Extremely delighted with this life changing product."
