Man divides people after refusing to give up plane seat for honeymoon couple

A p; has been left wondering if he was in the wrong after he was scolded for refusing to switch plane seats with a fellow passenger.

When a newlywed couple embarks on their honeymoon, they typically aim for the lap of luxury.

Envision tropical paradises, and lavish dining, and choosing the crème de la crème of travel options at every turn.

Occasionally, if honeymooners drop a hint to service providers about their marital bliss, they might snag a complimentary upgrade but it's not guaranteed. However, on a recent flight, one man was left gobsmacked when he was branded an "a******" for declining to swap plane seat so another passenger could sit next to his new bride.

After sharing the incident with his own wife who suggested he could have been more accommodating, the man took to social media seeking opinions.

He detailed: "I was flying from Melbourne to Dubai. I paid for a premium economy seat because it is a fourteen-hour flight and I want to be comfortable. The individual in the adjacent seat had received an upgrade and requested if I would switch places with their spouse as they were fresh from their wedding and on their honeymoon.

"I extended my congratulations and enquired about his wife's seat location. He gestured towards the rear of the aircraft in economy."

After some consideration, the man said he refused but his neighbour passenger wasn't about to give up so easily.

He continued: "I declined to switch seats but he asked if there was any way to convince me. I offered to switch if he paid the difference between the seats. It is a good amount. I had been lucky to get mine at a decent price. It would only have cost him £523 ($1,000 AU$). He said that they were on a budget for their honeymoon. I congratulated once again and put in my earbuds.

"He muttered that I was an a******. I said he was a p**** for taking the upgrade instead of either sitting with his wife or giving it to her. I told my wife about the incident and she thinks I should have done the nice thing. For the record she hates flying in economy so I know she would not have switched."

One Reddit user, clearly outraged by the story, commented: "People who do this kind of thing are so c*****. Him trying to guilt trip you by telling you he was on his honeymoon was supposed to mean what exactly? Why were he and his wife entitled to a $1K gift from a stranger at the last minute?"

Another person chimed in: "I'm so tired of people thinking they can 'guilt' someone into giving in, even expecting them to lose money in the deal.

"This guy is the a****** and I don't think his marriage will last. They just got married and he already abandoned his new wife for the 'good life'. His wife now knows she made a mistake, hopefully, she'll get out before too long."
