Europe heatwave: Tourists warned as 45C heat bomb set to smash into France

Another fierce heatwave is expected to roll out across parts of Europe again as we go into next week, forecasters predict.

Greece: Wildfires on Zante as heatwave continues

France is set to be hit by a 45C heatwave next week in the latest in what has been a string of hot weather warnings in Europe.

In the south west region, some areas are expected to experience sweltering temperatures of 45C just outside of Bilboa and Toulouse.

In the north of the country, temperatures of around 30C to 33C are fairly consistent while the hottest temperatures will be further south.

The heat bomb is set to blast the country on Sunday, August 11.

It comes after southern and central Europe experienced a fierce heatwave last month, sparking forest fires in Greece and Croatia.

The hot weather looks set to continue throughout August and beyond in some parts of the continent.

The World Health Organization (WHO) issued a stark warning this week, stating that the extreme heat in Europe is currently responsible for over 175,000 deaths annually, with figures expected to skyrocket.

Spain's Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued yellow, orange and extreme red heatwave warnings as temperatures in the southeast are expected to soar to a scorching 43C.

In Italy, Rome has been put under a maximum heat warning this week, with Florence, Bologna, Milan and Turin also facing red weather alerts.

A wildfire that erupted in Monte Mario is now under control, but Rome and its surrounding areas remain on high alert for further wildfires.

Germany isn't escaping the heat either. The German Weather Service DWD has issued a warning as parts of the country brace for temperatures exceeding 35C.

Campaign groups have raised concerns that the country is not adequately prepared for heatwaves. Frankfurt's Senckenberg Society for Nature Research has called for the development of early warning systems as the threat of wildfires intensifies.

Paris has also been feeling the heat, with temperatures hitting 35C this week while the city hosts the Olympic Games.

The World Weather Attribution (WWA) has warned that these high temperatures could affect athletes' performance and lead to an increase in heat-related illnesses.
